SUMMARY:Volunteer for PRISM’s Fresh Produce Distribution
DESCRIPTION:Volunteer Opportunity: Summer Produce Distribution Groups \nWhat: JFCS is teaming up with PRISM for another Volunteers in Action event to help local families access nutritious food while supporting a program rooted in dignity\, connection\, and empowerment. \nPRISM’s Fresh Produce Distribution provides fresh\, healthy produce to more than 200 families in the community. The event takes place in an indoor\, farmer’s market-style setting where community members can select fresh fruits and vegetables in a welcoming environment. The distribution is open to everyone in the community\, with no zip code\, residency\, or income requirements. \nAs a group\, we will support all aspects of the event\, from set-up through cleanup\, while helping create a welcoming experience for participants. \nVolunteers may assist with: \n\nSetting up the indoor distribution space before the event and helping with cleanup afterward\nDistributing fresh produce and helping ensure each family receives a fair share\nMoving and transporting produce boxes throughout the event\nAssisting participants with carrying groceries to their vehicles\, unloading produce\, and returning carts\nWorking collaboratively with PRISM staff and other volunteers to support a smooth event\nProviding language support\, if able\, in Spanish\, Russian\, Ukrainian\, or Somali\n\nAge Requirement\nVolunteers must be age 16 or older to participate without supervision. Volunteers ages 12 and older may participate with parent/guardian supervision. \nPhysical Requirements\nVolunteers should be comfortable with: \n\nLifting and carrying boxes of produce (up to 25 lbs. in an indoor environment)\nStanding\, walking\, and moving throughout the event\nAssisting with transporting produce and supplies\n\nWhen:\nTuesday\, August 18\, 12:30-4:30 p.m. \nWhere:\nPRISM\, 1220 Zane Ave N\, Golden Valley\, MN 55422\n(same building as JFCS\, different entrance) \nVolunteer Schedule \n\n12:30–1:00 p.m. – Arrival and orientation\n1:00–2:00 p.m. – Setup and preparation\n2:00–4:00 p.m. – Produce distribution\n4:00–4:30 p.m. – Breakdown and close-out\n\nWhy Join? \n\nConnect with other JFCS community members and give back to your neighbors\nHelp local families access fresh\, healthy produce\nMake a meaningful impact in just a few hours\nGain hands-on volunteer experience while working alongside PRISM staff and other community members\nSupport a program that helps strengthen our community\n\nAbout PRISM: \n\nPRISM (People Responding in Social Ministry) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing social services and connections that empower individuals and families to build healthy\, stable lives. This is a family-friendly event. Every volunteer who attends a Volunteers in Action event receives a free blue JFCS in Action t-shirt if it’s their first time.  \nBring your pup (all sizes welcome!) and join us for a parade of paws\, tails\, and smiles! We’ll split up into groups and “parade” through the campus\, visiting residents in each building and sharing lots of tail-wagging happiness. \nEven if you don’t have a dog\, we hope you will sign up to join us for a nice afternoon of conversation\, community and connection. \nWhat to Bring: \n\nCopy of your pup’s vaccination records\nBaggies for outside and in case of accidents\nA handful of treats for your furry friend\n\nWays to Get Involved in JFCS Puppy Parades: \n\nCan’t make it on May 17\, but want to join the JFCS Puppy Parade Team for one of our quarterly events? Parents can choose gifts for their children in a welcoming\, empowering environment. \nAs Group Preparation Volunteers\, we’ll work behind the scenes to make sure everything is ready for families ahead of PRISM’s main event (taking place on Saturday\, December 13).
