SUMMARY:Grief Support Group
DESCRIPTION:This Zoom-based grief group is a welcoming\, compassionate space for people navigating the loss of a loved one—most commonly a spouse or partner\, family member\, or close friend. Meeting virtually allows you to join from the comfort and privacy of your own space. This group is about companionship\, understanding\, and gentle support as you move through loss in your own way. \nThe group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month from 3 – 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. The group is free and open to the public. For questions\, contact Bonnie at 651-497-8248 or bjaffe@jfcsmn.org.

SUMMARY:J-Pride Havdalah & Wine Tasting
DESCRIPTION:Manischewitz\, a name synonymous with square matzos and sweet Kosher wine. But there’s a lot more behind the label! \nJoin J-Pride for a special wine-and-dine evening to experience the full range of Manischewitz with your LGBTQ+ Jewish community. We’ll have a sweet start to the new week with a Havdalah service led by Jayce Koester\, followed by a how-to on wine tasting. Compare different wines from the Manischewitz label\, and pair them with vintage Passover recipes from a 1930s Manischewitz cookbook. \nRSVPs required as space is limited. This event is for those over the age of 21+ \nAt this free event\, you are invited to bring along a donation for JFCS’s emergency food boxes if you are able. Items needed and information about the program is listed below. If you prefer to donate financially toward JFCS Emergency Response\, please make your gift at this link. \n\nJFCS distributes emergency food boxes to support clients and community members experiencing immediate food insecurity. Each box contains non-perishable items and is intended to serve as a short-term food resource during times of acute need. These boxes are frequently distributed directly by our staff to clients or community members in need. Additionally\, community members can come to the JFCS office in Golden Valley and receive a food box\, no questions asked. \nThe need for emergency food boxes has sharply risen in recent months\, largely caused by changes and disruptions to federal food programs\, as well as the increased immigration enforcement occurring in Minnesota. Almost half of the boxes distributed by JFCS in 2025 were distributed between October and December. \nDonations from the community\, both monetary and food products\, help us continue providing this service to anyone in need. Here is a list of items that we are looking to receive as donations for the food boxes (please refrain from donating items in glass jars):   \n\nTomato sauce \nDiced tomatoes \nCanned Vegetables \nCanned Corn \nOatmeal \nBreakfast Cereal \nWhite Rice (1 or 2 lb. bags) \nPasta \nCanned Tuna \nCanned Chicken \nPeanut Butter \nMac & Cheese \nCanned Fruit \nSnacks (Granola bars\, applesauce\, raisins\, etc.) \nReady to eat food (Tikka Masala pouch\, canned soup\, etc.) \nDried beans \nDried lentils \nDried chickpeas \nCooking oil \nSugar (small bags preferred)\nBlack tea \nHoney  \n\n

SUMMARY:J-Pride Gid Spinning Night!
DESCRIPTION:Come join our joyful band of queer Jews and fiber artists for an evening of hands-on craft\, learning\, and community care. We’ll be spinning gid–traditional sinew thread used to sew Torah scrolls\, megillot\, and tefillin–through a process that is tactile\, collaborative\, and surprisingly fun. \nGid is an essential but often invisible part of Jewish ritual life\, and access to producing it has historically been tightly restricted. This gathering offers a rare opportunity for queer Jews to participate directly in this sacred craft that has largely been closed to us (as well as to other marginalized groups within the Jewish community)\, and to do so in a way that reflects our shared values of inclusion\, sustainability\, and mutual responsibility. \nWorking with backstrap sinew from roadkill deer\, we will break the tendon into its individual fibers then spin them back together into usable thread. The gid produced will be used to repair and restore tefillin and Torah scrolls in the Twin Cities\, removing our community from the customer base that supports discriminatory production processes. \nNo prior experience necessary. Non-Jews and allies are welcome and can participate fully! \n\nYonathan Reches is a hide worker and scribe based in St. Paul\, where he lives with his spouse\, child\, and dog. He founded the Kedusha Project\, a collective of artisans dedicated to creating sacred texts and ritual objects through practices that are ethical\, sustainable\, and rooted in reverence for the life that sustains them. Yonathan’s work bridges traditional craftsmanship and contemporary values\, recovering and reimagining methods long held within insular communities. He produced the world’s first egalitarian-made tefillin and the first megillah on giraffe parchment\, and he continues to look for ways to innovate the kedusha industry!
