SUMMARY:Music and Memory: A Violins of Hope Family Experience
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, May 31 from 10 -11:30 a.m.\nMusic and Memory: A Violins of Hope Family Experience\nMinnesota JCC Sabes Center Minneapolis \nBring your family for a meaningful and music-filled experience inspired by the powerful Violins of Hope exhibition at the Minnesota JCC. This special event invites families with elementary-age children to connect with history\, resilience\, and the beauty of music. \nEnjoy a reading of the children’s book Violin of Hope by Ella Schwartz\,  followed by a live performance of Jewish music by talented student violinists from Northern Lights Suzuki. Children will be encouraged to listen actively— moving\, drawing\, and reflecting on how the music makes them feel. Young participants will also enjoy hands-on exploration\, including the opportunity to see and touch real string instruments and a chance to create their own “rubber band violins” to take home. \nWhile the program is inspired by instruments from the Holocaust period\, the focus of this family event is on how music can bring joy\, comfort\, and hope—even during challenging times. Any historical context will be shared in a gentle and age-appropriate manner. \nEach family will receive a complimentary copy of Violin of Hope so the conversation\, questions\, and wonder can continue long after the morning ends.  The books have been generously donated by Kar-Ben Publishing\, an imprint of Lerner Publishing Group. Light refreshments will be served. \nThis uplifting event blends storytelling\, creativity\, and music to spark curiosity\, empathy\, and connection across generations. \nRSVP Here \nPresented in partnership with the Minnesota JCC and made possible through the generous support of Lerner Publishing Group. \nThis event is best suited for children in grades 1-5 and their families\, but all are welcome. \nPlease note: The Violins of Hope exhibition will be open for viewing following the event. Families interested in visiting the exhibit should note that it includes more in-depth Holocaust-related content; parents are encouraged to use discretion based on the age and sensitivity of their children.
