More than a ride: Helping our community stay connected
By Laura Gorke • Associate Director of Client Services
Transportation is more than a ride. Access to safe, reliable, and affordable transportation can make the difference between being able to get where you need to go and having to go without. It also plays a role in preventing isolation, maintaining independence, and staying engaged.
For someone who cannot drive or lacks access to a vehicle, getting to appointments, running errands, and staying connected within their community is much more difficult. Mobility challenges, cost, limited transportation options, and Minnesota winters can all create additional barriers to getting around.

At JFCS of Minnesota, our transportation programs provide safe, reliable transportation for our clients, making it easier to access essential services, maintain independence, and stay connected to the people and activities that matter most. JFCS’ paid and volunteer drivers help people get where they need to go and provide practical support while creating meaningful opportunities for connection.
“I am very grateful to have the opportunity to use your transportation services to get to the grocery store and doctor’s appointments. Since I can no longer drive and there are no nearby buses for me to use, this service has made a big difference for me.” – Transportation Client
Demand for rides continues to grow, and volunteer drivers are essential to helping meet that need. Our volunteers provide rides for community members age 18+ to medical appointments, errands, social activities, and other important destinations.
Help keep our community moving
We are seeking more volunteer drivers, especially for our east metro services, to help meet the growing need for rides. Whether you can give a few hours each week or occasionally when your schedule allows, your time can make a meaningful difference in the lives of our clients.
We are also seeking a paid, on-call substitute driver to provide transportation services to JFCS clients by covering scheduled shifts when staff drivers are unavailable due to vacations, illness, or other absences.
If you’re interested in the volunteer or paid position, or know someone who might be a good fit, we’d love to hear from you. Contact us at 952-546-0616 to learn more about how you can help.
